CBG Exhibits Anti-Inflammatory, Neuroprotective, Antioxidant, and Antibacterial Effects Across Multiple Disease Models (pub. Nov 2022)

Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that serves as a precursor to major cannabinoids such as CBD and THC. In this 2022 scientific review, researchers examined the pharmacological properties of CBG and its synthetic derivatives, highlighting evidence that CBG interacts with multiple biological targets involved in inflammation, pain signaling, neurological function, and immune responses. The review identified CBG as one of the most promising minor cannabinoids due to its broad range of biological activity. (Nutrition Evidence Database)

The article discusses preclinical research showing that CBG demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, neuroprotective, anti-anxiety, and appetite-stimulating effects in laboratory and animal studies. Researchers also found evidence suggesting CBG may help reduce intraocular pressure, influence serotonin and cannabinoid receptor activity, and interact with pathways involved in oxidative stress and neurodegeneration. These findings have generated growing interest in CBG as a potential therapeutic compound across a variety of health conditions. (Nutrition Evidence Database)

The authors concluded that CBG warrants further investigation because of its diverse pharmacological profile and potential applications in future cannabinoid-based therapies. However, they emphasized that much of the current evidence comes from preclinical research and that additional human clinical trials are needed to better understand CBG’s safety, effectiveness, and long-term therapeutic potential.
