Cannabigerol (CBG) May Support Inflammatory Balance in Arthritis-Related Pain (pub. Oct 2025)

Inflammatory joint conditions like rheumatoid arthritis involve immune system over‑activation that leads to pain, swelling, and joint damage. In this study, researchers used a collagen‑induced arthritis model in rats—a widely accepted laboratory model that mimics key aspects of human inflammatory arthritis—to explore how cannabigerol (CBG) might influence inflammation and related joint symptoms. The goal was to determine whether CBG could help regulate important biological pathways involved in inflammation and immune response.

The findings showed that rats treated with CBG had reduced signs of joint inflammation and swelling compared with those that did not receive CBG. Analysis of tissue samples revealed that CBG appeared to influence inflammatory signaling pathways, including down‑regulating proteins and molecules that drive immune‑mediated inflammation. In addition, markers associated with oxidative stress—another contributor to chronic joint damage—were lower in CBG‑treated animals. These results suggest that CBG may support a more balanced inflammatory response in this arthritis model, potentially helping to reduce pain and tissue damage.

While this research was performed in an animal model rather than in humans, it provides early evidence that CBG may interact with immune‑related pathways to help modulate inflammation and oxidative stress—two key factors in chronic arthritis. The authors note that further studies, including clinical research in humans, will be valuable to better understand CBG’s potential for supporting joint health and inflammatory balance.
