Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that has recently gained attention for its potential effects on mood and mental wellness. In this 2024 double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, researchers studied the short-term effects of CBG on anxiety, stress, and mood in healthy adults. Participants received either CBG or a placebo and reported their experiences while researchers monitored changes in emotional and cognitive outcomes.
The study found that CBG significantly reduced self-reported anxiety compared to the placebo. Participants also reported lower levels of stress and improved mood after taking CBG. Researchers noted that CBG did not produce significant cognitive impairment or intoxication-like effects, which has made it an area of growing interest among scientists studying cannabinoids and mental health. The findings suggest that CBG may influence emotional regulation and stress-related pathways in the body.
The authors concluded that these results support further research into CBG’s potential therapeutic applications for anxiety and mood-related conditions. While the findings were promising, the researchers emphasized that larger and longer-term clinical studies are still needed to better understand CBG’s effectiveness, safety, and optimal dosing in different populations.
