Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and cognitive difficulties, and many patients continue to experience symptoms despite standard treatments. This study from the UK Medical Cannabis Registry evaluated clinical outcomes in patients prescribed cannabis-based medicinal products for fibromyalgia. Researchers analyzed patient-reported outcomes over time to assess changes in pain severity, sleep quality, anxiety levels, and overall quality of life.

The findings showed that patients receiving medicinal cannabis therapy reported improvements in several symptom areas, including reduced pain intensity, better sleep, and improved general well-being. Many participants also experienced reductions in anxiety symptoms during follow-up assessments. Because the data came from a real-world clinical registry, the study provides insight into how cannabinoid therapies may perform outside of controlled clinical trials. Some patients did report side effects, which highlights the importance of individualized treatment and medical supervision.

The authors concluded that medicinal cannabis may represent a supportive treatment option for people living with fibromyalgia, particularly for those who have not achieved adequate symptom control with conventional therapies. However, as this was an observational case series without a placebo comparison, further randomized clinical trials are needed to confirm effectiveness, determine optimal dosing strategies, and better understand long-term safety.
